Yas Marina Officially Signs Up As Modified Vehicle Inspection Centre
The first inspection centre for the modified vehicles has been officially launched in the UAE. The location has been set as the Yas Marina Circuit for the first inspection centre in the UAE.
The reason behind the creation of the new centre at Yas Marina is to address the legislation that has been passed last year by the cabinet of the UAE for improving the safety requirements for the modified vehicles.
Yas Marina Circuit, UAE Ministry of Interior, Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology(ESMA), and Automobile and Touring Club UAE(ATCUAE) are the responsible parties that will be involved with the centre.
The centre will offer inspections for every type of modified vehicles, which include cars, motorcycles, and off-roaders. After the inspection has been done properly, the vehicles coming to the centre will be issued an official ESMA certificate. The certificate will state the roadworthiness of the modified vehicles.
However, for now, it is not clear as to what the costs associated with it, might be. Also unclear is if the Dubai RTA will be accepting the certificate during its own yearly registration inspections, or if the certificate will be renewed on a regular basis by the issuing authority.
Up till now, garages had been given a free hand in the modification of cars that were on customer requests, however, there was a huge question about annual registration being imposed. Also, it was found that many owners used to resort to deceit for getting the cars passed, while openly appearing at the multitudes of auto shows.
