Bad Car Wheel Alignment and How to Rectify it
The difference a car wheel alignment makes has a great impact on the performance of a car and generally, on safety too. While there’s not much of a difference when in your regular driving, however, when you have to take a turn at fast speed or dodge something quickly, a car wheel alignment is crucial and can be the only possible reason behind your life being saved.
It’s a good thing that there will always be noticeable symptoms when the car wheel alignment is off.
Symptoms of a Bad Car Wheel Alignment
These are the symptoms that indicate when it’s time to get the wheels realigned since the current car wheel alignment is messed up.
1) Car Is Moving Over to One Side
When you’re driving on a long stretch of straight road and there’s little to no traffic around, take the hands from the car’s steering wheel, letting the steering wheel be free. If you end up noticing your car swerving over towards any one particular side, put your hands back on the wheel and maintain control of steering so you can stay on the road.
Try the test for a second time by taking hands off the wheel to confirm your apprehensions. If the car still pulls towards any particular side, then the car wheels need to be realigned as soon as realigned.
The more you find the car pulling towards any particular side, the more is the need for getting the car wheel alignment. If you continue letting the car go as is, you won’t be able to remove your hands from the wheel and will need to maintain a firm grip all the time.
2) Steering Wheel Balance
When driving along a road that’s completely straight and flat, the car’s steering wheel should remain centred and perfectly straight.
An easy way to notice this is be looking at the car’s emblem that lies in the steering wheel’s center.
If the logo stays at about the same level as you, then that means it is centred, however, if there’s a difference by even a few degrees, this points to an issue with wheel alignment. Once the issue gets rectified, you’ll realise that it’s much easier to drive the vehicle that moves as per your gestures and with ease.
3) Sloppy Steering
Have you felt that your steering wheel moves a bit sloppily? A lot of times, this is due to a problem with the car’s wrong alignment. This causes the steering wheel to feel a bit too loose or there’s a lag in the car’s response time when you try turning the car.
Although sloppiness isn’t solely due to alignment related issues, there are chances of it being a plausible one. Despite the argument of what could be the reason, it’s better to visit a mechanic for getting the car alignment and other systems checked for the error and its rectification.
4) Vibration in the Steering Wheel
When you drive and the steering wheel has been constantly vibrating, the most likely cause is a car wheel alignment problem as well as a balancing problem. At times, when you drive over some objects or potholes on the road, this causes the wheels to get misaligned. There’s even a scope of some other problems of larger scale, all of which warrant a visit to a mechanic for getting your vehicle checked out.
5) Tire Wear Not Even
Try noticing your tires and their treads, if you find that a few particular tires have more worn out treads, then that’s a product of bad wheel alignment. This is because a vehicle that’s properly aligned has the same amount of rubber depth on all the four tires, on the other hand, wheels that aren’t aligned properly have different rubber depths.
What makes it important to get the Alignment Problem fixed ASAP
Quite a lot of people tend to notice such symptoms and yet don’t care about it, and ignore them for a variety of reasons. That can be because they think that’s it’s not much of an issue or they don’t wish to spend the money on it.
However, this is a wrong logic as a lot more money is spent in damage control due to prolonged car wheel alignment issues. This is because this issue affects tires and vehicle in general. This is also responsible for reducing the car’s fuel efficiency.
Therefore, take your vehicle to a mechanic for getting the realignment done at the first possible chance. Wheel alignments are usually cheap and will prevent you from paying much more later on.
