Tesla’s Long Haul Truck to Have 320-500 Km Range
The next month, Tesla Inc. is planning to unveil its electric big-rig truck that has a working range of 320-500km. This is surely a sign that the EV maker is working on targeting regional hauling capability for entry into commercial freight market.
Elon Musk has made promises of releasing a prototype of a Tesla Semi truck in September for expanding the market of Tesla to beyond luxury cars. There are widespread speculations if the Tesla can pull it off or not, since finding an alternative to a conventional diesel engine that can travel around 1,600 km on a single tank of fuel seems unrealistic right now based on battery design!
For now, Tesla’s efforts seem to be centred on a ‘day cab’, an electric big-rig, which will have no sleeper berth and will be capable of travelling around 320-500 km without recharging with a normal payload.
According to battery researchers, the plan by Tesla is consistent with current battery technology. Although, Tesla hasn’t given an indication of the cost, cargo size and distance limit of the vehicle.
