Tesla Teases About An EV Semi Truck in A TED Talk
In a TED talk that happened recently, Elon Musk made an announcement about Tesla’s plan to launch a semi-truck in September 2017. Last year, Tesla hired few employees from Daimler’s Supertruck program involving semi-truck. Now it seems that those employees were taken within Tesla to work on its semi-truck program. With model 3 being unleashed, the objective seems to be the semi-truck project which had earlier taken a backseat to accommodate model 3 program. and Last September,
However, there seems to be no further news on the truck and its capabilities. This shroud of mystery will only be cleared in the month of September when the truck is unveiled. Tesla has been expressive about its future plans in semi-truck building. The semi-truck project was first announced by Elon Musk in “Master Plan, Part Deux”, which was released during July 2016. In the plan, Tesla wrote about Tesla semi truck’s objective, about delivering a reduction in the cost of cargo transport and making sure safety was increased while operating it became easy and fun.
Since there has been no information about the truck, hence there exists only this screenshot image from Musk’s TED talk. Musk hoped that an EV semi truck will be able to perform better than a diesel truck in range and torque. However, the range seems to be an off part, since some long-haul semi trucks can get up to 1,000 miles from a single tank of diesel, and thus this will be a tough nut to crack.
Stay tuned to know more about this when the semi truck launches in September later this year! This year seems to be a busy one for Tesla with its plan to double superchargers around the world in 2017.
