Tesla Bets on Mobile Technicians to Help the Growing Demand
In preparation for the Tesla’s Model 3’s launch this month, Tesla is working on to improve customer satisfaction and is now working on a unique strategy of providing the service to customers by sending the tech to the owners.
Back in February, Tesla had expressed thoughts about expanding the mobile repair service for handling the addition of the third name in the series. It is also expected that Tesla will upgrade production capability to reach a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles in a year in 2018.
As per the company, since around 80 percent of the repairs are minor in nature, the expanding of mobile repair service will allow customers to make repairs at the home or office.
Tesla has made the system so that any software fixes are delivered OTA. But it needs to add in more service centers. Till more service centers are added to the Tesla’s network, technicians will go mobile.
Tesla had initially rolled out its mobile service program in 2009, which allowed around 700 Tesla owners to request services such as electronics replacement and annual inspections from home.
While Tesla’s mobile service has had satisfied owners, it does have its own pain. In some cases, detailed information and checking are needed which isn’t available readily at home. Also with the growing demand for Tesla, experts are concerned if the mobile service can be used to meet the growing needs of Tesla’s customers.
