Surprise New Entrant in SUV Market: Ferrari F16X
Ferrari has retracted their decision of not building an SUV and will be developing a model that is expected to be unveiled in the year 2021. The Ferrari’s SUV will be named F16X, and the company is working alongside to produce the SUV’s predecessor GTC4. The GTC4 will make its debut a year before the F16X, i.e. in 2020.
For now, the company hasn’t revealed much information about the SUV. However, some sources opined that the F16X model would either have a V8 petrol engine or a hybrid engine as the powertrain of choice. A lot of features will be common between the F16X and GTC4, such as all-wheel drive, alloy composition and so on.
For providing rear seat access, the SUV will make use of rear-hinged doors. Also, there will be no B-pillar in between the front and rear seats.
The Model is all set to compete with its rivals like Aston Martin DBX, and so on. The cost of the F16X will be around $342,135.
Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Ferrari, has already set a target for the company to sell 10,000 units every year by 2025, and the new SUV might prove to be an encouraging move for the same.
The mystery that remains is that why did the company revert its decision not to build an SUV. But then, the demand for SUV is growing, as was apparent in the WCOTY 2017 awards, where most finalists were SUVs, and the Jaguar F-Pace took the award.
However, let’s see how building an SUV pans out for the Ferrari in the time to come.
