Saudi Arabia Allows Women to Drive from Next Year!
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia said that it’ll be removing the ban it has on women driving, thus, losing the status of being the only country in the entire world that had restrictions on women driving! Hopefully, after Saudi Arabia allows women to drive, the stringent laws of the country will be relaxed in years to come.
Starting from June next year, women will be able to get a driving license, as per the official press agency of Saudi Arabia, who cited a royal decree. For examining the implementation, various ministries will set up committees and will report in a period of 30 days.
This is considerably the most dramatic move from the government for liberalizing the Saudi’s society. However, this seems to be the part of the country’s ambitious program from economic modernization for reducing the dependency on oil and its trade.
The architect of this plan, as well as the country’s predominant leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is likely to face pushback from the Saudi’s powerful religious establishment.
But, women activists have been rejoicing this move and are in all praise for this move by the Saudi Arabia. Let’s hope for better days overall for the women in the country.
