Porsche Mulling About Use of Diesel Engines in Future
Diesel has been having troubled days it seems as now it looks as if Porsche is mulling the option regarding if the upcoming generation of its diesel engines will be the last.
The company will decide at the end of 2020 over discontinuing the diesel engines.
Due to the widespread implications of the Volkswagen’s diesel emissions violations, Porsche has been under the public eye, and the company now wishes to consider the possible options.
Porsche wishes to develop a mix of plug-in hybrid vehicles, combustion engines, and purely battery-powered cars in the next 10-15 years and will decide on the diesel’s future with Porsche.
Last month, German prosecutors had reportedly begun an investigation to check whether Porsche staff had been involved in the design of any illicit engine-control software. Regulators are also examining if the Cayenne had been fitted with such a device.
Just like the Panamera saloon which reached dealerships last November, a redesigned Cayenne running on diesel will be launched in September.
The company still relies on the diesel engine, which accounts for around one sixth of the Porsche sold globally. f
