New Toyota Supra Hybrid to Have Automatic Transmission
The latest Toyota Supra sportscar’s photos show a road hugging bodywork along with a sleek design. According to the available information, this high-performance hybrid will sport an automatic configuration.
The test vehicle that was sighted at the Nurburgring is known to have the automatic configuration. However, this has certainly lead to a lot of people hoping that there is not only one transmission available. The hybrid sportscar that is slated for launch in late 2018 will most certainly feature an all-wheel drive and electrification.
The new Supra is expected to have carbon fibre in the body framework. The car will also feature iDrive controller, BMW switchgear and controls, and seems to have an automatic gear stick from BMW. This has lead people to think that the car will have the eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
But till the time full information on the vehicle doesn’t come out, the manual gearbox can’t be ruled. Toyota hasn’t commented on the issue yet and the information will only be revealed at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in October. Toyota has somehow managed to keep the technical specification of the Supra a secret yet.
Using an all-wheel drive along with a high power output originating from the hybrid petrol-electric powertrain; possibly featuring four/six cylinder engine will give the Supra a hefty amount of power at its disposal.
The Toyota Supra is being considered as a part of the Toyota’s “three pillars” sports cars, the series that started from the Toyota 86.
Using only automatic gearbox might hurt its sales prospects to an extent, with the purists wishing for the manual gearbox. But till there is an official declaration, there will be multiple speculations.
