New Amended Regulations Cause Decrease in Number of Fines
The new traffic regulations that came into effect on July 1 seem to be causing more and more people to drive properly. The new laws with steep fines have caused a drop of 37 percent in the first week in Dubai since the newly amended traffic laws were introduced.
Dubai Police have issued 59,777 traffic fines in the first week of July as compared to a total of 94,964 fines that were issued in the June’s last week, as per the statistics from the Dubai Traffic Police.
Of all the offenses charged, the most common offenses were parking incorrectly, not driving in the correct lane, not wearing seatbelts(drivers and passengers), sudden swerving, tailgating, blocking traffic, and not leaving a safe distance between the vehicles.
Maj Gen Mohammed Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief and Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council was of the opinion that the gradual decrease in the numbers looked promising. He also said that the negative driving behavior is expected to disappear in the next few months.
Al Zafeen also advised the public to pay the due fines as soon as possible before the discounts on fines were present.
Recently, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President had announced that all traffic fines committed in Dubai in the 2016 or before can be paid at a discount of 50 percent.
