Model Y to Have Reduced Wiring as Compared to Other Tesla Vehicles
Tesla Inc’s next nameplate, the Model Y crossover has undergone an engineering rehaul, even before the car had entered production.
Earlier, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk had told analysts when the Model Y was revealed that the new car would have its own architecture, instead of just using the Model 3 platform.
As per Musk, the new approach would allow the Y to use up only 100 meters(328 feet) of wiring in the total construction. This is different on a lot of levels as compared to about 5,000 feet of electrical wiring used in the Model 3.
However, Musk has changed the tone a bit.
According to Musk, who took the counsel of his team, the Model Y will be using some amount of carryover from the Model 3 so as to ensure that the car can be brought to the market swiftly.
Although, he did add that despite the change, the Y will still cut the total wiring to 100 meters as per the plan.
