Mercedes Benz to Begin Offering Electric only Variants
Dieter Zetsche, Daimler AG CEO has said that Mercedes Benz will be offering electric versions of all its models by the year 2022, meanwhile converting the Smart city brand for making it fully electric.
Speaking on Monday at the company’s investor day in Germany, Zetsche said that the company will offer a minimum of 50 electrified variants of Mercedes Benz passenger cars in fully electric and hybrid variants.
Smart has turned all electric for its 2018 model year, in the United States.
However, since electric vehicles generally have a lower margin as compared to vehicles with internal combustion engines, Daimler is setting itself a savings target that does seem ambitious. The company’s Fit for Leadership 4.0 plan hopes to target saving of up to 4 billion euros($4.8 billion).
