Lamborghini seems to be vying the fast-growing SUV sector. Lamborghini’s CEO, Stefano Domenicali mentioned in an interview the company’s plans to launch its Urus SUV. With a new twin-turbo V8 engine, the Lamborghini’s Urus SUV will have the capacity to churn 650 Horsepower.
Lamborghini is expected to unveil the large SUV around the end of the year at the company’s factory. The Urus is about 4.9 meters long and 1.9 meters wide! Lamborghini is also working on a plug-in hybrid model that will be brought into the market a year after the standard version is launched.
The company reportedly has plans to build around 1,000 Urus SUVs for the next year followed by 3,500 units in 2019. The production for the SUV may be increased if the car’s demand is relatively higher. In the last year, Lamborghini built around 3,500 two-seater sports cars.
Urus SUV is expected to go on sale in the Europe by the second quarter of 2018, followed by the US in the third quarter. The price for the Urus is expected to be lower than $200,000.
This move is in line with increased global demand for the SUVs as seen by the latest awards also where Jaguar F-Pace won the World Car of the year 2017 award. All the finalists were SUVs which point towards the SUV market that Lamborghini now hopes to target with its Urus SUV.
