Jaguar F-Pace Bags the World Car of the Year Award
Jaguar F-Pace has been declared as the World Car of the Year 2017 and has also won the title of the World Car Design of the Year. The crowning of the F-Pace was done at the New York Motor Show. F-Pace’s contenders for the title included 23 news cars, out of which the other two finalists were the Q5 and Volkswagen Tiguan.
The fact that all the finalists were SUVs has been attributed to the growth in popularity of such vehicles and the importance meted out to them by car manufacturers.
CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, Dr. Ralf Speth, while accepting the award, said, “The awards endorse our team’s talent and work in creating and delivering Jaguar’s fastest selling vehicle and the world’s most practical sports car.”
A jury of 75 automobile journalists that are chosen from 23 countries around the world took the decision to confer the World Car of the Year award. All the jurors were selected by the World Car Steering Committee using their expertise, experience, credibility and influence as the selection criteria. The jurors drive and assess new vehicles on a regular basis in their professional work.
The last year’s winner for the coveted award was Mazda MX-5.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class beat BMW 5-series as well as the Volvo S90 / V90 and won the 2017 World Luxury Car award while Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman took home the World Performance Car 2017 award.
