GCC Countries to Host Gulf Challenge 2017
A brand new off-road rally series will be hosted by the Motorsport federations belonging to six GCC countries. The event, the Gulf Challenge 2017 will be organized in a joint venture by the six nations.
The off-road rally series will have a total of five rounds and hopes to spark a golden future for the rally events in the region.
Although there was a brief outline in October that was shared with the public; the finalization and the calendar for the event have been completed now. Federations belonging to the GCC countries involved along with Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Bakhashab have been given the work of promoting the new series.
The countries hope to develop and sustain motorsport in the region. The countries are optimistic that in future competitors will gather from around the world to participate in the events. This will lead to the Gulf region being popular for motorsport in the time to come.
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Kuwait have seen a surge in various cross-country type of events in the recent years, and hence, the national federations from these countries have partnered with Bahrain and Oman for the creation of the new series.
The Gulf Challenge 2017 will have separate championships in these categories: cars and motorcycles among others!
This is the largest motor sporting event in the Gulf region apart from Formula One and MotoGP races in the recent times.
