Ford Puts Forward Retractable Table Patent
According to Ford Motor Co., the autonomous vehicles will have interiors that resemble an office conference room or a kitchen. Earlier this month, the automaker put forward a retractable table patent that comes with an airbag for use in its self-driven cars.
The basic idea as per the company is that since the person won’t need to attend to the road, the seats will be made facing inward around the table so passengers can use a laptop, eat or play.
Ford’s retractable table patent showcases the table getting retracted into the vehicle’s floor when it’s not in use; it additionally said that the table has been designed to work in either a unibody or body-on-frame vehicle.
The retractable table patent also mentions that the table will have an airbag for inflating in case of a crash for reducing the chances of the occupants impacting against the table while during the vehicle impact and to absorb energy.
While the patent for the car table provides a glimpse of how the robot cars in future would be, but that doesn’t mean Ford will bring the same to market.
In the recent years, Ford has filed numerous patents for a list of features in autonomous vehicles, which include ones for removable wheel and pedals, reconfigurable seats as well as a movie projector screen.
The automaker even has given a statement that it plans for introducing a Level 4 autonomous vehicle by the year 2021.
