Dubai Traffic Police and RTA Issue 1,279 Penalties on Day 1
After the new traffic regulations had come into effect on July 1st, the Dubai Police issued around 1,279 traffic fines in keeping with the new laws in the first 24 hours that the law came into effect.
The revised law is aimed at decreasing the number of road fatalities and has been implemented across the UAE at the start of the month. Apart from general rules, some rules have been changed for procuring driving licenses too.
Director of the Dubai Traffic Police, Brigadier Saif Muhaire Al Mazrouie revealed that out of 1,279 fines, 311 tickets had been issued in the driver’s presence; while 968 others had been issued in driver’s absence.
The most number of offenses that were registered were of drivers obstructing the traffic. 208 tickets have been issued for the offense in Dubai. The revised penalty for this offense has been set at AED 1,000.

The second most common penalty with 125 tickets was of Lane discipline; while the third spot belonged to illegal parking with a total of 98 violations.
Al Mazrouie said around 66 drivers had been fined for not providing enough space between the vehicles.
Seat belt violations stood at 62, with 54 by drivers and 3 by the passengers. The offense carries a fine of AED 400 and four points from the driving license for the driver and AED 400 for each passenger involved.
