Dubai Starts Incentives For Electric Vehicles
It seems as if Dubai is keen on adopting electric cars and is giving a push to the people, so they opt for the technology. The energy authority of Dubai has started an incentive program to encourage buyers and to draw them towards electric cars.
In the Supreme Council of Energy’s 45th meeting, Dubai Electricity Water Authority(DEWA) along with Dubai municipal authority presented the plan for the incentives. The plan is in keeping with Dubai Green Mobility Initiative which aims at increasing uptake of electric and hybrid cars.
A previously issued directive from the Supreme Council for the government departments states that public institutions must ensure 10 percent of new purchases of fleet vehicles to be of the electric or hybrid type.
The plan for incentive will support the 2020 target which aims for 2 percent vehicles across Dubai to be of electric or hybrid nature. This will further increase to 10 percent by 2030 and help Dubai in reducing carbon emissions by 19 percent by 2021.
A plan to double the electric vehicles charging stations numbers across Dubai has also been announced. The setting up of different kinds of charging station will include fast charging stations that will take only 20-40 minutes will take the number of chargers across Dubai to 200.
DEWA has been chosen as the registering and approval authority for any public and private organisation looking to set up an electric vehicle charging station. DEWA will work with the municipal corporation and RTA to undermine if technical aspects and standards are being maintained or not! In March Dubai issued new regulations on the installation of electric vehicle charging stations as it looks to be at the forefront of environmentally-friendly cars.
This move will help a lot of owners looking to buy electric vehicles, and in the long run, will contribute to improving the environment while reducing dependency on oil.
