Dubai RTA Plans For Eid Al-Adha Holiday Successful; Ferries 5.4 Mn People
Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revealed that during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, the total number of passengers that were picked up by taxicabs and public transport exceeded 5.4 million.
In a statement on Monday, the transport authority said that a total of 5,454,714 passengers made use of the public transport during the holiday weekend.
The number of metro riders were 1,829,356, out of which 1,177,502 passengers used the Red line, while 651,854 passengers used the Green Line, according to Mohammed Al Ali, Director(Strategy Planning), RTA Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector.
He further added that 1,448,306 passengers had been picked up by the public buses, while Dubai Tram carried 74,311 passengers. Taxis were immensely popular with them picking up over 1,861,787 passengers around the Emirate. Marine transport stood at a respectable 240,954 passengers.
Dubai RTA had prepared a comprehensive plan for managing the traffic for optimizing the vehicular usage around the Eid Al Adha holiday. This was done because the area around the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Dubai Water Canal, and Palm Jumeirah faces a lot of traffic.
Apart from this, the Command and Control Centre of the Dubai Police Department had received 125,867 calls as well as 728 traffic accidents took place during the holiday period.
