Dubai Police Hopes to Deploy Autonomous Security Vehicles
Dubai seems to be on track to use autonomous vehicles for various purposes. The want for autonomous vehicles amongst the Dubai government is such that the RTA has also planned to buy Tesla cars to be used in the emirate.
Now the Dubai Police will become the world’s first as it deploys autonomous vehicles for carrying out security duties.
The deployment of the autonomous security vehicles come as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and VP and Prime Minister of the UAE, wishes to incorporate latest technological systems to enhance Dubai’s claim over it being the world’s smartest city.
Atsao Singapore Limited has been roped up to team up with the Dubai Police for manufacturing the self-driving vehicle.
The vehicle will be programmed to roam around a particular area and will be equipped with a sensor radar and cameras. It will also have voice chat that links to the operating room. Further abilities of the autonomous vehicle include detection of suspicious objects as well following suspects.
According to Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, Major General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, the patrol car had been designed for use in the Dubai streets.
The autonomous vehicles will help maintain security, fight crime, and work to create a happier public.
Al-Marri will be heading the Dubai Police General Police Task Force for the project and will participate and supervise during the final stages.
