Dubai Metro Reaches Another Milestone in Eight Years
Since it was launched in the year 2009, on September 9, Dubai Metro has carried more than a billion passengers in its eight years of operations.
The Dubai Metro Redline is the most favoured line, with a total of 689 million passengers opting for the same route, while around 339 million passengers used the Dubai Metro’s, Green Line.
Extending 75 km, the Dubai Metro is the longest driverless metro line in the whole world. At the same time, the Union Station is the world’s largest underground metro station, which spans an area of 25 thousand sq mtrs.
The RTA has been moving ahead with an ambitious plan for revamping mass transit systems and raising the public transport’s share to help people’s mobility by as much as 30%, thus improving the way people traverse in Dubai.
In 2016, the rate had reached 16% and is expected to increase to 24% by the increment in the number of taxis. Furthermore, there’s been a remarkable evolution in the community’s culture and the general perception about public transport.
The Red Line will be extended by 15 kilometres for serving the 2020 Expo site in Dubai from the Nakheel Harbour Station. This new extension will cause opening of seven new stations along the route.
