Car Rental And Road Transportation Covered Under New Regulation
A new resolution has been issued by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council that regulates car rental activities and road transportation in the emirate.
The new resolution, No. 47 of 2017 has been aimed at regulation of the transportation of the goods, passengers, valuables, packages, furniture, and foodstuff, that is undertaken by specialized companies. Rental of trucks, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, and recreational vehicles have been regulated too.
The permits are valid for one year and are renewable after the stipulated period.
For obtaining the permit, an applicant has to submit a renewable request within 30 days of the permit expiring. There are bylaws of the resolution that define terms and conditions involved in obtaining the permit.
The resolution states the competencies and authorities of RTA’s Licensing Agency in this regard, which include evaluating and approving applications, determining the number of vehicles operated by each company, monitoring adherence to permit terms and conditions, establishing and managing a database for the activities, entities, and vehicles subject to this resolution.
Obligations of the licensed entities have also been prescribed in the regulation and include conducting activities that are defined in the permit; ensuring the provision of vehicles, parking space and an office that is suitable for the licensed activity as well as any regulations that have been outlined in the resolution’s bylaws.
