Buick LaCrosse 2018 To Have Hybrid Engine Options
Despite introducing a complete overhaul for the LaCrosse in 2017, Buick is again bringing changes in the car’s 2018 model. The Buick LaCrosse 2018 will be on sale this fall with a few differences, namely a standard hybrid powertrain and lower starting price among other updates.
The 2017 LaCrosse has the sole engine choice of a 3.6-liter V6; this has been changed in the 2018 edition with the inclusion of a new 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with eAssist light electrification. This engine system makes use of a small electric motor along with a 0.45 kWh lithium-ion battery that can store energy from regenerative braking. Although the exact figures haven’t been provided by the Buick, the electric motor will supposedly result in a 9 percent torque and around 19 percent higher fuel economy compared to the V6 engine.
Although the electric powertrain isn’t responsible for the primary propulsion, it has its benefits. The inclusion of the small battery will help maintain a folding rear seat and also power accessories when the engine is shut off during standstill.
It is being speculated that the starting price of the LaCrosse will be reduced by around $1,000.
The V6 engine option has been updated as well and will come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The Buick LaCrosse 2018 will go on sale this fall.
