Buffer of 20 km/h Still Present in Dubai
Dubai Police has confirmed that the 20 km/h buffer provided over the speed limit is still valid; giving rest to the confusion amongst the drivers ever since the new traffic regulations came into play.
UAE’s new federal traffic regulations started working since July 1 and have introduced stricter penalties for reckless drivers and over speeding apart from other offenses.
On the day one of the new regulations, the Dubai Police gave 1,279 fines to drivers in keeping with the newly updated rules.
Under the new regulations framework, drivers who speed by more than 80 km/h over the speed limit will be slapped with AED 3,000 penalty, 23 black points as well their vehicle will be confiscated for 60 days.
For drivers going at the speed of 60 km/h over the set speed limit, the penalty has been set at the fine of AED 2,000, 12 black points and confiscation of the vehicle for a 30 day period.
People driving less than 60 km/h over the speed limit will have to shell out AED 1,500 along with a deduction of 6 black points in addition to 15 days of vehicle confiscation.
Despite the confirmation from Dubai Police, quite a few organizations such as RoadSafetyUAE have been rallying to get the grace of 20 km/h removed for safety purposes.
