BMW Starts Making the BMW 2 Series
BMW is turning to a front-wheel-drive for the four-door version of the BMW 2 series, which will make its debut in 2020.
Freshly captured spy shots are being used to confirm that the upcoming BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is going to be built on an FWD platform. The same platform has been used for the Mini lineup as well as the BMW’s smaller 1-series sedan that’s currently slated to go on sale only in China.
BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be a four-door vehicle along with coupe-like styling and is expected to be put on sale in the US in early 2020. The company will likely provide an all-wheel drive as an optional feature.
The Gran Coupe is to be sold globally and will be expected to be sold in three different configurations, of three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
This move to use FWD is a significant departure by the company for its 2-series in the US market. Previously, the 2-series coupe, as well as convertible that are being sold in the US, have been built over an RWD platform, with an optional AWD. These vehicles are likely to be redesigned in 2022.
