BMW i8 Roadster: BMW Looks to Drop Top
BMW’s coveted Plug-in Hybrid i8 sports car will come in a new avatar this spring as it looks to drop its top.
The BMW i8 roadster is most likely to be unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show in November. After getting unveiled in November, the car will go on sale in early 2018 in the markets of U.S. and rest of the world.
Even though BMW officials haven’t answered any question related to the i8 Roadster, the actions of the company confirmed the roadster.
The actions that caused people to take notice about the i8 roadster presented themselves in the form of a picture of a vehicle that had the label of the i8 roadster. This was shown on a slide about upcoming electrified vehicles shown to investors, where the timeline for the car was shown to be 2018. The company then released the car’s teaser video on the social network platform, Facebook.
The new variant doesn’t come as a surprise to many since BMW has already been hinting about a convertible model of the i8 ever since it showcased the i8 Concept Roadster with eDrive in 2012.
Additionally, the company also showed the BMW i Vision Future Interaction concept during the Consumer Electronics Show 2016.
A source familiar with the development said that the production i8 Roadster is a lot closer to the design of the concept.
The roadster makes it mark as the existing BMW i8 will get an update in 2018, giving it more power and range.
Despite the i8 remaining a hybrid currently, the German carmaker will surely work on making the car fully electric when it’ll be redesigned in 2022.
