BMW Introduces BMW i3 Sports Model
BMW has decided to add a sportier model within its i3 electric car lineup.
The 2018 BMW i3 Sports model will be kept on sale in the U.S. by the end of 2017 and will join the i3’s base model that has been given an update for the year 2018.
As compared to the base i3 model, the BMW i3 Sports has more power as well as styling tweaks. There have been several design changes, which include front and rear aprons that have i3s-specific contours apart from special colour accents in different spots across the vehicle. The car will also have 20-inch wheels, which will be exclusive to the BMW i3s and 0.4 m drop in its height owing to sports suspension.
The electric motor in the BMW i3 Sports provides 184 Horsepower, up from the 170 horsepower in the basic variant. According to BMW, the enhanced drive system in the car result in improvements of almost 40 percent over the base model in power and torque.
In 2018, the base i3 will have a wider track as well as design changes for giving it a more sportier appearance. BMW has sold a total of 7,625 i3 units in U.S. last year.
An optional range-extending engine that runs on petrol has been given for the 2017 and 2018 model.
The battery of the sports model will, however, be 94Ah, same as the 2017 model. The 2017 BMW i3 has a stated range of 185 km.
Both the 2018 models of BMW i3 will be showcased publicly at the Frankfurt Auto Show 2017.
