BMW to Electrify 3 Series to Counter Tesla
German automaker, BMW has decided to introduce an all new electric version of the widely popular 3 series. The plans by the company seem to be about presenting the vehicle in September later this year.
This seems like a plan by the German automaker to fend off the growing presence of the Tesla in the electric car market. With Tesla’s mass-market Model 3 being finally out on the streets around the world, other companies have been rethinking their EV strategy.
BMW will be presenting the vehicle at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, which is supposed to happen in September.
The electric only version of the 3 series is supposed to have a range of about 400 km. The 3 series has been one of the most sold BMW models. Hence BMW seems to have played based on its success.
BMW already has been working on creating and producing EV cars to counter Tesla’s growing influence.
The move hasn’t been officially accepted by the BMW yet.
