Aston Martin’s First EV to be RapidE
British Luxury sportscar maker Aston Martin’s first EV will be the RapidE, which will be produced along with Williams Advanced Engineering. The car will have the performance capability to match with a 5.9 liter 470 Horsepower V12 engine. However, there will be a long wait to get behind the wheels of one of these, along with a price tag of $255,000.
Aston Martin’s RapidE will be based on the platform of the Rapid AMR four-door sedan. After the withdrawal of LeEco due to financial woes, Aston Martin had to cut the original production schematics by around a third. Additionally, the initial start date has been shifted to 2019 from 2018 earlier.
Although there is no word of the car’s performance, Aston Martin revealed that the all-electric car would match the performance of the Rapide S V-12 performance.
According to Aston Martin’s CEO and President, Andy Palmer,”Aston Martin is keen on working with electricity powered vehicles but will also be working on the traditional internal combustions engines too.”
After it successfully launches the RapidE, Aston Martin will work on developing an electric variant of its DBX SUV.
It remains to be seen though if James Bond 007 will drive the electric RapidE or just stick to classic petroleum based cars.
