Abu Dhabi Municipality Impounds 141 Vehicles, 31 Motorists Fined
Over a hundred cars have been impounded by the Abu Dhabi Municipality recently along with fines of up to AED 3,000 to other motorists for one offense.
The offense being, Cars not being cleaned.
Abu Dhabi Municipality started an initiative that cracks down on dirty cars that have been left behind by their owners.
In an inspection that was carried out in the Mafraq and Mussaffah industrial areas, 289 warnings were issued, 31 fines were issued as well as 141 vehicles had been impounded for the offense of abandoning the vehicles over a long duration.
In the same manner, motorists around the city have been given hefty fines for non-washing of the cars even after returning from a holiday.
According to the municipality, the cause for the severe action is based on both, safety and aesthetic appeal. An official from the Abu Dhabi municipality said that the dirty cars have been an eye sore to the general public and can even pose risks.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality has urged the people for keeping their vehicle clean, so they don’t attract the AED 3,000 penalty that falls under the Law No(2) for 2012.
If the person whose vehicle has been fined reports to the Abu Dhabi Municipality, a settlement may be offered that includes a 50 percent discount.
In any case, though, the offender will still have to pay the impound fees. The impound fees vary depending upon the place of being impounded and the type of vehicle.
But to ensure people don’t keep on breaking the law, any repeat offenders will be cited with 2x fine.
As per the statement from the Municipality, motorists will be given a three days notice, after which the car will be impounded. Earlier, the notice period had been 14 days.
The law applies to all kinds of vehicle such as boats and trailers too.
