50 Percent Tint in Vehicles Now Allowed by RTA
Dubai Police has put out new traffic rules for governing the percentage of tint that car owners will be legally allowed on their vehicles.
According to the new regulations, the car owners will be allowed to use 50 percent tint on their car windows. With this, the old rule allowing 30 percent tint will end.
Mohammed Saif Al Zafein, Major General, Director of Federal Traffic Council and Asst Commander-in-Chief, Operational Affairs at Dubai Police said that all kinds of vehicles are eligible for getting the darker window tint. The only exception will be the taxis and trucks.
The company and rental cars will also be allowed to use 50 percent tint as per the Article no 9 of the new traffic regulations.
According to the new Federal Traffic Law that was introduced on July 1, individual car owners have been allowed the autonomy of tinting all the windows of the vehicle except the front wind screen.
The new rule for 50 percent tint will be a relief for drivers who prefer to use darker tint as the AED 1,500 fine won’t be applicable.
White Points System
Federal Traffic Council has extended the White Points System that has been present in Dubai to cover all the Emirates.
The White Points system awards the motorists that haven’t committed any traffic rule violation in Dubai for the whole year.
The next iteration of the winners will be chosen in December 2018.
Each eligible person receives a total of 24 white points per year, i.e. two for each month. At the end of the year, the points will be calculated. A motorist can lose entitlement over a month’s points if the vehicle is involved in any traffic rule violation recorded within the month. This doesn’t depend upon if the car was being driven by the owner or not.
