2019 Edition of Porsche Cayenne Revealed, To Go On Sale In 2018
Porsche Cayenne will be moving to a newer platform in a bid to become lighter and faster.
On Tuesday, Porsche revealed the 2019 Cayenne third generation and unveiled that the two variants of the midsize crossover will be available for buying in the US from next year.
The price for the two trims will be $83,950 for the Cayenne S and $66,750 for the Porsche Cayenne base model. The prices are inclusive of shipping and have an increase of 7-8 percent over the current costs.
The redesigned Cayenne will be on sale around a half a year down in 2018 as the 2019 model.
Using VW’s MLB Platform
As a part of the latest redesigns, the Cayenne will move to a version of VW’s MLB platform. The MLB platform has been in use in the Porsche Macan apart from various models of Audi. The usage of the platform will allow Porsche to expect a significant reduction in the weight of the Cayenne.
The upcoming models will come loaded with newer, smaller and more powerful engines.
Engine of the Porsche Cayenne
The 2019 model of Cayenne has been powered by a 3.0-liter single-turbo V6 engine, which produces 340 horsepower, a difference of 40 as compared to the current models. This will allow the base version of the Cayenne to go from 0-100 kmph in just 6 seconds.
On the other hand, the 2019 Cayenne S will be powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that can produce 440 horsepower with a 0-100 kmph time of 5 seconds.
Loss in Weight
As per Porsche, the intensive use of aluminium, as well as other weight-saving measures, have resulted in the car to be 65 kgs lighter, despite a great increase in the standard equipment. The exterior of the Cayenne is mostly aluminium and so is interior. The use of a new Li-ion polymer starter battery accounts for a weight difference of 11 kg.
Exterior and Interior
The design of the exterior can be considered as evolutionary regarding the previous model. The wheelbase has remained same despite vehicular length increasing to 194 inches now.
The revamped Cayenne will get the newest version of the Porsche’s in-house Communication Management system, which allows the vehicle to get a new level of connectivity. It has also been provided with a 12.3 inch HD touch screen that became part of the redesigned Panamera last year.
More to See
More variants are to be expected post these later on, including a diesel one.
