2018 Honda Civic Type R Sets New Record in Germany!
Honda Civic Type R’s latest 2018 model unleashed its power on the Germany’s famous Nurburgring racetrack and set a new lap record. The lap record was set by the front wheel drive model which hasn’t been put into production yet.
According to Honda, the model which set the record is a final factory-spec model. The model will go into production at Honda’s UK based Swindon plant in this summer. The Type R finished the world famous circuit’s lap in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds, which comes as an improvement of around seven seconds over its predecessor that set its lap record a few years back.
Powered by a 315 horsepower 2.0-litre VTEC turbo four engine, the car uses lower ratio as compared to previous models to ensure a faster acceleration. On a dry track, the Type R used road-legal but track focused tyres which helped it break the track.
With a more rigid bodyshell that comes with almost 40% higher torsional stiffness, the type R has a new multi-link rear suspension that improves stability while braking. Because of the wider track and tyres of the car, cornering speeds have been notched up higher with some other features to improve stability. The features that help improve stability are an addition of a longer wheelbase, optimised aerodynamics, and a new multi-link suspension in the rear.
However, there still has been no news from Honda if its latest offering of Honda Civic Type R will be offered to the UAE and GCC market. This remains a speculation as of yet.
