2018 Audi A8: A Dazzling Package
At the Audi Summit 2017 held in Barcelona, Spain, the new 2018 Audi A8 has made the world debut.
The debut showcased the new car and introduced to the world a new user interface concept, Ingolstadt’s new design language, and new automated driving capabilities.
As per Audi, the A8 flagship has been developed as the first mass market car globally to feature a high level of autonomy with features like garage pilot, traffic jam pilot and parking pilot.
The traffic jam pilot feature can take charge of the A8 on congested roads and will be able to control the car at speeds of around 60 km/h on the highways where the way has been demarcated by physical barriers. According to the German car maker, the AI is so advanced that the necessary regulations may not have been developed around the world that can facilitate its autonomous driving features.
The available engine options will range from a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 that delivers 460 Horsepower and a 3.0-liter V6 engine delivering 340 horsepower. All the engines will come armed with a 48-volt electrical system for enabling mild-hybrid tech. The benefits of the battery system will help in zero emissions coasting and an extended stop start function.
The last Audi A8 model to come will be its A8 L e-tron model with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that will combine a V6 engine with to get an output of 449 horsepower. The onboard battery will store charging for about 50km of electric-only, which will be zero-emissions driving.
Reportedly, Audi will provide wireless charging in the A8 L e-tron that will enable customers to place a pad on the garage floor that will transfer power inductively. The e-tron version of the Audi A8 will do 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds with the maximum speed of 250km/h.
The price of the new A8 will start from AED 380,000 in Europe, and the car is expected to reach Middle Eastern markets in the second quarter of 2018.
